President Tinubu reshuffles cabinet, replaces Edun, Dangiwa

Wale Edun                         Ahmed Dangiwa

President Bola Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, leading to the exit of the Minister of Finance and the Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, from the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, the President directed Edun to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who has been elevated to serve as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy.

Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State in the ministry, is expected to assume full responsibility for the nation’s economic management.

The statement also announced Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, replacing Dangiwa.

According to the directive, Dangiwa is to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending further developments.

Akume stated that all handing-over processes must be concluded on or before April 23, 2026.

He explained that the reshuffle was aimed at strengthening cohesion in governance, improving synergy among cabinet members, and enhancing the delivery of economic policies under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy in governance, as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” he said.

The SGF added that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in effecting the changes.

President Tinubu thanked the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them well in their future endeavours, while assuring that efforts to reinvigorate governance would be continuous.
