IGP Disu honoured in Lagos, pledges professional policing and stronger partnerships

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has reaffirmed his commitment to professional policing and public trust following his honour at a state banquet in Lagos.

The event, held on April 25, 2026, at the Lagos State House, Marina, was hosted by the Lagos State Government to celebrate Disu’s appointment as the 23rd indigenous and 33rd Inspector-General of Police of Nigeria.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who led dignitaries at the ceremony, described the police chief as a product of Lagos whose career reflects discipline, service, and excellence. He noted that the recognition was also in acknowledgment of Disu’s impactful leadership, particularly during his tenure with the Rapid Response Squad in the state.

In his remarks, the Inspector-General expressed appreciation to the government and people of Lagos, describing the honour as a homecoming and a reflection of his longstanding ties to the state.

He reiterated his commitment to restoring public confidence in policing, strengthening professionalism within the Force, and deepening community engagement across the country.

Disu also pledged to enhance collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Government, and key security stakeholders, including the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, to sustain safety and stability.

He called on Nigerians to support law enforcement agencies, emphasising that effective security requires collective responsibility among government institutions, the private sector, civil society, and citizens.

The banquet underscored the strong relationship between Lagos State and the Inspector-General, highlighting shared goals of service, leadership, and national development.

The University of Lagos Alumni Association has unveiled plans for its 55th Anniversary Awards and Recognition Dinner, scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. World Food Day: CAPPA Warns Against Corporate Capture of Nigeria’s Food System

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health. In a statement signed by CAPPA’s Media and Communication Officer, Robert Egbe, and released in Lagos on Thursday, the group said the government must urgently strengthen laws that protect citizens from deceptive marketing and unhealthy food products.
