In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, clarified that the footage is an old video of an incident that occurred more than three years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or any part of Lagos State. However, a loophole in the law left open a pathway for Big Tobacco and their allies to seek approval if they could demonstrate that their products were safe. Nearly two decades later, none has succeeded. Brazil's health regulator, ANVISA, required tobacco and nicotine companies to provide scientific evidence supporting claims that these products were “reduced risk”, and “harm reduction” substitutes for smoking, or treating tobacco addiction. The industry failed to meet to those criteria. Instead, evidence showed that these products carry significant public health risks, particularly for young people. According to a statement issued by the NPF-NCCC's Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Unwana Imah, the arrests followed an intelligence report received from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) concerning suspected cases of computer-related fraud, identity theft and money laundering. Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, has ordered the transfer of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Kuje, for the commencement of his 75-year prison sentence. The order was issued on Tuesday after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presented Mamman before the court and filed a consequential application seeking the forfeiture of additional properties linked to the convict. Lagos Police Recover Over ₦300m, Arms In Major Crackdown On Crime

The Lagos State Police Command says it recovered over ₦300 million linked to alleged criminal activities and seized several firearms and ammunition during a series of operations carried out across the state in May 2026. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed this in Ikeja during a press briefing on the Command’s operational achievements for the month. According to him, operatives arrested ten suspects involved in offences ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery and cultism to vehicle theft, conspiracy and stealing. Lagos Police Arrest Six Suspected ‘One Chance’ Robbers, Recover Weapons

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested six suspected members of a notorious “One Chance” robbery syndicate allegedly involved in robbing unsuspecting commuters along Ago Palace Way in the Okota area of Lagos State. The suspects were apprehended during a stop-and-search operation carried out by police operatives along Ago Palace Way. According to a statement by the Command's spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, a tricycle with registration number AAA 720 QL conveying about six occupants was intercepted while the suspects were allegedly attempting to rob some commuters. The Our Water Our Right Africa Coalition (OWORAC) has raised concerns over what it described as the growing push towards water privatisation across Africa, warning that such policies could undermine public accountability and access to safe water on the continent. The coalition expressed the concern following a regional consultation in Abuja hosted by the African Ministers’ Council on Water as part of discussions on the First Implementation Plan of the Africa Water Vision 2063 and Policy. The suspects were apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation conducted along Iyana Ipaja Road by police operatives.
