Court Orders Transfer Of Ex-Power Minister Saleh Mamman To Kuje Prison

Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Maitama, Abuja, has ordered the transfer of former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to the Nigeria Correctional Centre, Kuje, for the commencement of his 75-year prison sentence.

The order was issued on Tuesday after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) presented Mamman before the court and filed a consequential application seeking the forfeiture of additional properties linked to the convict.

During the proceedings, prosecution counsel and Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, informed the court that the EFCC was seeking the forfeiture of five additional properties allegedly traced to Mamman.

The properties include Walijam Apartments on Lobito Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja; Bloom Luxury Suites Nigeria Limited in Kaduna State; two mansions on Misratah Street, Wuse 2, Abuja; and A.U.A Plaza on Kade Street, Wuse 2, Abuja.

The court also heard from one Shamsudeen Mohammed, who told Justice Omotosho that Mamman travelled from Abuja to Kaduna by taxi after his conviction and was receiving traditional medical treatment while staying in a rented apartment in Rigasa area of Kaduna State.

Justice Omotosho told the former minister that his prison sentence officially commenced from Tuesday.

“The sentence starts to run from today,” the judge said, adding that Mamman had left Abuja for Kaduna after judgment was delivered.

Mamman, however, told the court that his absence from previous proceedings was due to ill health.

The judge subsequently recounted the details of the May 7 judgment to the former minister.

Mamman’s counsel, Femi Atteh, SAN, was absent from court despite reportedly being served with the forfeiture application by the prosecution.

Justice Omotosho adjourned hearing on the forfeiture application until June 8, 2026, in the interest of fair hearing, directing that Mamman be personally served to enable him secure legal representation of his choice.
