POWA Awards Scholarships, Advocates Inclusion for Nigerian Children
The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) has awarded scholarships to 20 pupils and students across its schools as part of efforts to promote education and inclusion among Nigerian children.
The National President of POWA, Chief Mrs. Oluwafunmilola Mutiat Disu, disclosed this during the 2026 National Children’s Day celebration held on Tuesday.
According to her, the beneficiaries were drawn from 19 primary schools and one secondary school, with priority given to children of fallen police officers.
Chief Mrs. Disu said the gesture reflects POWA’s commitment to supporting children and ensuring access to quality education, especially for vulnerable groups.
She noted that this year’s Children’s Day theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” highlights the need for equal opportunities and protection for all children.
“The future is now. Every child carries the power to dream, learn, and lead,” she said.
The POWA president also commended the Force Education Unit for reducing school fees for children of junior-ranking police officers, describing the move as a significant step towards easing the burden on affected families.
She urged children to remain focused on their studies and avoid criminal activities and social vices, including cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and violence.
Chief Mrs. Disu further called for collective efforts towards building a society where every child feels safe, empowered and valued.
She also remembered children displaced by insecurity and appealed for their safe rescue and return.
POWA is a welfare and advocacy organisation dedicated to supporting police families, women and children across the country.
