Oladejo Promises Push for Lagos Special Status, Recognition of 37 LCDAs
Former Publicity Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Hon. (Mogaji) Seye Oladejo, has pledged to champion the demand for a special status for Lagos State and the formal recognition of its 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) if elected into the House of Representatives.
Oladejo made the promise during his declaration to contest for the Mushin Constituency II seat at the GOS Compound, Olateju, Mushin, Lagos, where he also unveiled what he described as a social contract with the people of the constituency.
He said Lagos, as Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, deserves special recognition and stronger federal support, especially in infrastructure development and governance structure.
“Lagos State should be accorded a special status, and our 37 LCDAs should be officially recognised,” the aspirant said.
Recalling his political and administrative experience, Oladejo described himself as a product of Mushin politics, noting that he had served as Secretary and Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Commerce and Industry, and Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations.
“I am the same man you made your secretary and later chairman of Mushin Local Government. I have served in different capacities, and I am here to seek your support for the House of Representatives,” he said.
He stressed that his ambition was rooted in delivering purposeful leadership and impactful legislation, adding that Mushin deserved strong and experienced representation at the National Assembly.
Oladejo outlined a wide-ranging legislative agenda, including a Lagos Special Status and Infrastructure Support Bill, a Local Government Autonomy and Recognition Bill to upgrade the 37 LCDAs, and a National Youth Skills and Employment Development Bill focused on vocational and digital training.
Other proposals include a Public Education Support and Equity Bill, a National Mental Health and Community Care Bill, an MSME and Informal Sector Growth Bill, and a Creative and Sports Industry Development Bill.
He also promised scholarships for outstanding students, free examination forms for indigent candidates, revival of school debate and quiz competitions, and educational tours to institutions such as the Lagos State House of Assembly, National Assembly, and major industrial sites like the Dangote Refinery.
On healthcare, Oladejo pledged free medical outreach programmes, mental health awareness initiatives, and a senior citizens’ wellness centre for recreation and health support. He also promised empowerment programmes for market men and women, artisans, youths, and persons in the creative industry.
He assured constituents of transparent leadership and inclusive governance, saying his agenda aligns with the progressive ideals of the APC.
“I remain committed to supporting policies and legislation that uplift every corner of Mushin Constituency II,” Oladejo said.
In his welcome address, the Director-General of the Hon. Seye Oladejo Campaign Organisation, Hon. Kayode Sobande, urged residents to support the aspirant, saying he would deliver impactful representation at the National Assembly.
“When he gets to the House of Representatives, he will do a lot for the people of Mushin Federal Constituency. Let us support and vote for him,” Sobande said.
The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Olatubosun Aruwe, also declared support for Oladejo, stating that he remained the preferred candidate for the constituency ahead of the primaries.
“On Friday, May 15, the candidate of the people for Mushin Constituency II is Hon. Seye Oladejo. We will support and vote for him during the primary election,” Aruwe said.
The Chairman of the APC Mandate Group in Mushin Local Government, Alhaji Abdulfatai Idowu, appealed to party members to rally behind Oladejo and other APC aspirants in the spirit of party unity.
Other dignitaries in attendance included Hon. Yinka Esho, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Dr. (Mrs) Ayoola, APC leaders, party members, youths, and residents from across Mushin Constituency II, who turned out in large numbers for the declaration event.
