Lagos Police Rescue Four Kidnapped Children, Launch Manhunt for Suspect

The Lagos State Police Command says it has rescued four kidnapped children and reunited them with their parents following a swift intervention by operatives on patrol at Alafia Bus Terminal, Coker-Orile, Lagos.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said the rescue operation reflects the Command’s renewed commitment to tackling crimes against children and protecting vulnerable residents across the state.

According to the Command, the incident occurred on 8th May, 2026 at about 11:40pm during a routine patrol around Alafia Bus Terminal.

Police officers reportedly observed four children in the company of an unidentified woman attempting to board a luxury bus out of Lagos State. On sighting the patrol team, the suspect abandoned the children and fled the scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the children were allegedly kidnapped from the Ijesha-Tedo area of Lagos State and were being trafficked out of the state under the cover of night before the timely intervention of the police.

The children were immediately taken into protective custody, while efforts were launched to locate their families. They have since been safely reunited with their parents.

The police said investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect and identify others connected to the crime.

CP Fatai commended the alertness and professionalism of the officers involved, describing the operation as a demonstration of effective patrol policing and rapid response capability.

He assured residents that the Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State, while urging parents and guardians to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities involving children to security agencies.
