NPF-NCCC Arrests Mother, Daughter Over Alleged ₦18m Romance Scam

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) has arrested a mother and her daughter over their alleged involvement in an ₦18 million romance scam and money laundering operation.

According to a statement issued by the NPF-NCCC's Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Unwana Imah, the arrests followed an intelligence report received from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) concerning suspected cases of computer-related fraud, identity theft and money laundering.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a Lagos resident, Emmanuel Amanfo, who is currently at large, allegedly conspired with his 22-year-old stepdaughter, Rokibat Oluwasheyi Imoru, to open and operate multiple bank accounts used for fraudulent activities.

Police said one of the victims, a resident of Malta whose identity was withheld, allegedly transferred funds through Money Transfer Operators and direct deposits into several Nigerian bank accounts belonging to Rokibat Imoru.

Investigators further disclosed that the funds were later moved into an Ecobank account belonging to Rokibat’s 39-year-old mother, Urowhe Diana, where the proceeds were allegedly spent.

The police said forensic analysis of the suspects’ digital footprints linked the mother and daughter to the romance scam operation, leading to their arrest.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Emmanuel Amanfo, who is said to be the husband of Urowhe Diana and stepfather of Rokibat Imoru.

The NPF-NCCC stated that investigations are still ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting the country’s cyberspace and tackling cyber-related crimes under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

The police also urged members of the public to report suspicious cyber activities through the NPF-NCCC online reporting portal or official email channels.

World Food Day: CAPPA Warns Against Corporate Capture of Nigeria’s Food System

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health.
