Lagos Police Inaugurate ‘Command Sweepers Squad’ To Combat Rising Crime In Ikorodu

The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a special tactical security outfit known as the “Command Sweepers Squad” to tackle rising criminal activities in Ikorodu and adjoining communities.

The initiative follows growing concerns and complaints by residents over insecurity and criminal incidents in parts of the Ikorodu axis.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Command's spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the squad was established under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, as a temporary intervention outfit aimed at restoring public confidence and strengthening security operations in the area.

The special squad comprises officers drawn from the Command Tactical Teams, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF and 63 PMF units of the Lagos State Police Command.

Personnel from other security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) are also part of the operation.

The statement disclosed that the squad has been strategically stationed in Ijede to allow rapid deployment and improve access to different parts of Ikorodu and neighbouring communities for effective crime prevention and emergency response.

To enhance operational efficiency, the squad has been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).

The Command stated that operatives have already been deployed to identify black spots and criminal hideouts to conduct intelligence-led operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements.

The Commissioner of Police assured residents that the operations would be carried out professionally and in accordance with the rule of law.

He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information through the Command’s emergency lines.
