Anambra Police Recover Slain Bishop’s Stolen Vehicle, Arrest Two Suspects
The Anambra State Police Command has recovered a Toyota Land Cruiser belonging to murdered cleric, Bishop Chinedu Clarence James of End-Time Reconciliation Ministries, Asaba, Delta State, and arrested two suspects linked to the crime.
The development comes under the new spirit of promoting community policing and proactive crime-fighting across the country, driven by the leadership and directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, who has consistently charged state commands to respond swiftly to violent crimes.
The command said the breakthrough followed intelligence-led operations aimed at tracking down those involved in the abduction and killing of the bishop.
Bishop James was reportedly abducted and shot dead during an attack in Delta State on May 12, 2026, after which his assailants fled with his vehicle.
Police said the investigation took a major turn after credible intelligence revealed that the stolen Toyota Land Cruiser was being moved into Anambra State for possible sale.
This prompted a coordinated operation led by the Commander of the Intelligence Response and Rapid Response Unit (IRRT), CSP Orede C. Matthew, under the Anambra State Police Command.
According to the command, operatives tracked the movement of the vehicle and monitored suspected contacts linked to the disposal network.
Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects, Uchenna Nicolas, allegedly confessed that he became involved after being employed about two weeks before the incident.
He reportedly told investigators that he contacted his cousin, Uchenna Igwe, based in Onitsha, to help source a buyer for the stolen vehicle.
Police said the information became a crucial lead that enabled operatives to trace the suspects.
The suspects were eventually arrested in Onitsha while allegedly attempting to sell the Toyota Land Cruiser.
The Command confirmed the arrest and recovery, describing the operation as swift and intelligence-driven.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their professionalism and assured that efforts were ongoing to arrest other members of the criminal network involved in the kidnapping and murder.
He added that preliminary findings indicated the possible involvement of a wider syndicate, while investigations continued to uncover the full details surrounding the attack.
The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all those connected to the crime are arrested and prosecuted.
