Police Seize Suspected Illicit Drugs Worth ₦7.8bn in Lagos Raid, Arrest Alleged Kingpin
Operatives of the Zone 2 Command of the Nigeria Police Force have uncovered a major drug trafficking network in Lagos, leading to the seizure of suspected illicit drugs valued at about ₦7.8 billion and the arrest of several suspects, including an alleged kingpin.
The operation, carried out by officers of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) in collaboration with divisional detectives, followed months of intelligence gathering and surveillance coordinated under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olohundare Jimoh.
Police operatives stormed an apartment located inside an estate in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos, where hundreds of bags of suspected Canadian Loud were reportedly recovered.
The alleged kingpin, identified as 41-year-old Eke Henry Ifeanyi, was arrested during the raid alongside other suspects.

Addressing journalists at the scene, AIG Jimoh disclosed that the suspect allegedly offered a ₦500 million bribe to the SPU commander in a bid to stop the operation and enable him contact associates to move the consignment.
According to the police, the offer was immediately rejected and officially documented as part of ongoing investigations.
AIG Jimoh said the operation highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and the deployment of specialised police units to grassroots operations.
He noted that the operation involved rapid containment strategies, coordinated surveillance, and professional conduct by officers involved.
Reacting to the development, IGP Disu said the success of the operation validates the ongoing redeployment of personnel to divisions and specialised units across Lagos and Ogun States.
“Policing must be close to the people, and our specialized units must work side by side with divisional teams on the ground,” the IGP stated.
He commended the professionalism displayed by the SPU commander in rejecting the alleged bribe and following due process.
The police authorities said exhibits recovered during the operation have been documented and would be presented in court, while investigations continue to track other members of the syndicate.
