IGP Disu Moves to Establish Police Academy Campus in Ogun, Upgrade 42 Colleges

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday held a high-level strategic meeting with key stakeholders to advance plans for the establishment of a new campus of the Nigeria Police Academy in Ogun State and the upgrade of 42 police colleges across the country.
The meeting, held at the Federal Ministry of Education, focused on strengthening police education and securing accreditation for police training institutions nationwide.
It was hosted by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, alongside the Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Said Ahmad.
Also in attendance was former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and other stakeholders, underscoring the national importance of the proposed reforms.
Discussions at the meeting centred on infrastructure development for the Ogun campus, collaboration with Tertiary Education Trust Fund for the provision of modern facilities, and coordination with the National Universities Commission to ensure resource verification and accreditation compliance.
Stakeholders also agreed on a timeline for the Ogun State campus to commence operations in the 2026 academic session.
Speaking at the meeting, IGP Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to institutional reforms through improved education and training.
According to him, transforming police colleges into standardised institutions that combine academic excellence with tactical operational training is critical to producing officers capable of addressing contemporary security challenges.
He noted that the reforms would help build a modern, service-driven police force anchored on professionalism, competence, and integrity.
