IGP Disu Orders Nationwide Audit of Police Arms, Ammunition

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed all Commissioners of Police across the country to immediately commence a comprehensive audit of arms and ammunition in their respective commands and formations.

The directive was issued during an emergency conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the press held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre in Abuja.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the exercise is aimed at strengthening accountability within the Nigeria Police Force, identifying operational gaps, preventing misuse of police assets, and enhancing operational readiness nationwide.

IGP Disu explained that the audit is beyond a routine administrative exercise, describing it as a critical institutional measure to ensure that all arms and ammunition in police custody are properly documented, secured, and deployed in line with operational standards and national security objectives.

He directed all Commissioners of Police to ensure the audit process is conducted thoroughly, transparently, and professionally, with detailed reports to be submitted to the Force Headquarters within the stipulated timeframe.

The police boss reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to institutional reforms anchored on accountability, professionalism, transparency, and effective internal control systems.

He assured Nigerians that ongoing reforms under the current leadership are focused on building a more disciplined, efficient, and accountable police institution capable of effectively responding to contemporary security challenges.
