The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed as misleading a viral video circulating on social media that purportedly shows the recent arrest of Fulani men found with arms and ammunition in Ikorodu.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, clarified that the footage is an old video of an incident that occurred more than three years ago and does not reflect the current security situation in Ikorodu or any part of Lagos State.

The command expressed concern over the recirculation of outdated content, warning that such actions could create unnecessary panic, fear, and apprehension among residents.

According to the statement, members of the public should disregard the video and avoid sharing unverified information capable of undermining public confidence and peace.

The police also cautioned social media users and content creators against spreading false, unverified, and alarmist reports that could trigger public disorder, stressing that individuals found deliberately disseminating misinformation or fake news would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, has directed the sustained deployment of police personnel and operational assets to identified black spots, strategic locations, and entry and exit points across the state.

CP Fatai said the proactive security measures are being implemented in collaboration with other security and safety agencies to ensure the continued safety of residents and visitors.

He urged residents to go about their lawful activities without fear, with the police assuring them that adequate security arrangements are in place to safeguard lives and property.

The state police chief further called on members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons, movements, or activities within their communities, noting that public cooperation remains vital in preventing crime and enhancing safety.
