Lagos Police Nab Ikorodu Killers, Arrest 118 Suspects in April Crime Crackdown

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has announced the arrest of two suspected kidnappers linked to the killing of a teenager in Ikorodu, alongside other major breakthroughs recorded by the command in April 2026.

At a news briefing in Ikeja on Wednesday, CP Fatai said the suspects, Elijah Emmanuel and Tony Ekwane Oghanetega, were arrested on April 27 at the Lucy Fibre area of Ikorodu following credible intelligence and coordinated operations by the Lagos State Police Command.

He said preliminary investigations linked the duo to the abduction and killing of 17-year-old Thomson Omokhafe Adams, which occurred on April 22, 2026.

The state police chief said the victim was lured under the guise of a friendly meeting before the incident escalated.

He added that investigators also revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to a similar crime in November 2025, where a female victim was abducted, ransom collected, and later killed.

The Commissioner described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in the command’s sustained offensive against kidnapping and violent crimes.

Beyond the Ikorodu case, the police recorded a total of 118 arrests within the month under review for offences including armed robbery, cultism, kidnapping, vandalism, and unlawful possession of firearms.

Recovered items include 11 locally fabricated Beretta pistols, one cut-to-size pistol, one foreign-made pistol, two dane guns, nine telecom power batteries, four cutlasses, a knife, 21 bags of suspected illicit substances, and other incriminating materials.

In a major operation on April 27, operatives arrested 58 suspects linked to street crimes, including traffic robbery and harassment of residents across Ilasan, Lekki, and Maroko. The suspects were alleged to be responsible for phone snatching and attacks on motorists along the Lekki corridor.

The command also made progress in tackling infrastructure vandalism, arresting suspected telecom vandals and recovering stolen power batteries following intelligence from service providers.

Anti-cultism operations led to the arrest of suspects in several parts of the state, including Iwaya, Lagos Island, Ajao Estate, and Festac, while additional arrests were made in connection with armed robbery and murder cases.

Police further confirmed the arrest of suspected gun runners and recovery of firearms, as well as ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and apprehend fleeing suspects.

CP Fatai described cultism as a growing concern and called on communities to collaborate with law enforcement agencies, noting that many suspects have already been charged to court.

He assured residents that sustained intelligence-led operations would continue to ensure criminals have no safe haven in Lagos State.

The commissioner also urged members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection, stressing that all suspects will be prosecuted at the conclusion of investigations.
