IGP Disu Seeks Stronger Police-Correctional Service Collaboration on Criminal Justice

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has called for deeper collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Correctional Service to strengthen the country’s criminal justice system.

Disu made the call on Tuesday during a strategic courtesy visit to the headquarters of the correctional service in Abuja.

He stressed the need for enhanced cooperation in intelligence sharing, custodial security, and seamless coordination in the administration of justice, noting that effective partnership between both institutions is critical to national security.

The police chief said improved synergy would boost investigative outcomes, reduce delays in prosecution, and support ongoing reforms within the correctional system.

In his response, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, commended the IGP for the visit, describing it as historic.

He noted that Disu is the first serving Inspector-General of Police to pay an official visit to the service’s headquarters, adding that the move underscores a strong commitment to inter-agency cooperation and criminal justice reform.

Nwakuche also called for increased collaboration in intelligence sharing and custodial management, as well as the introduction of joint training programmes to enhance operational efficiency and professionalism.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts by the police leadership to strengthen institutional partnerships within the criminal justice system.
