IGP Disu Pushes Joint training, Intelligence Sharing in Police-Immigration Partnership
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has emphasised the need for improved coordination mechanisms, joint training, and real-time intelligence exchange between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Immigration Service to strengthen national security.
Disu made the call on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the headquarters of the immigration service in Abuja.
He noted that enhanced collaboration between both agencies is critical to tackling cross-border crimes, stressing that seamless coordination and intelligence integration would significantly improve operational effectiveness.
The police chief highlighted the importance of institutionalising joint training programmes and strengthening communication channels to enable timely intelligence sharing and rapid response to emerging security threats.
According to him, building a more coordinated security framework would not only improve border control but also reinforce Nigeria’s overall security architecture.
In her response, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap, commended the initiative, noting that closer collaboration would enhance professionalism and efficiency across both agencies.
She also pointed to the service’s existing partnership with the INTERPOL National Central Bureau Nigeria in areas such as transnational crime control and intelligence sharing, describing it as a model for deeper inter-agency cooperation.
The visit underscores ongoing efforts by the police leadership to strengthen synergy among security agencies through structured coordination, capacity building, and integrated intelligence systems.
