Police Warn Against Unlawful Protests in Sagamu, Arrest 146 in Crackdown

The Ogun State Police Command has warned residents of Sagamu against unlawful assembly and violent protests, following a series of security operations that led to the arrest of 146 suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, issued the warning during a press briefing delivered on his behalf by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, at the Sagamu Divisional Headquarters on April 14, 2026.

He said the command would not tolerate any act capable of disrupting public peace, stressing that while citizens have the right to express grievances, such actions must be carried out within the law.

The warning comes after a disturbance on April 7 involving commercial motorcycle operators who blocked the Oba Erinwole GRA Road in Sagamu, disrupting movement.

Police operatives dispersed the gathering, but the situation escalated as the protesters reportedly moved to the Vehicle Inspection Office and TRACE Office in the Sotubo area, also affecting activities at a nearby health centre.

According to the police, 10 principal suspects linked to the incident were arrested and have been charged to court, while intelligence obtained from them led to further operations.

In a follow-up raid conducted on April 13, operatives of the Sagamu Area Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, arrested 146 suspects at identified criminal flashpoints across the town.

The joint operation involved personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Amotekun Corps, the Ogun State Community Security (So-Safe) Corps, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.

Police said the suspects are currently undergoing screening, adding that those found culpable would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Abeokuta for prosecution.

Ojajuni reiterated that there would be no hiding place for individuals or groups intent on undermining public order, adding that the command remains committed to intelligence-led policing and collaboration with community stakeholders.

He also commended the support of local authorities and traditional rulers in maintaining security in the area.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
