Lagos APC Denies Candidate Imposition Plot, Reaffirms Commitment to Internal Democracy

President Bola Tinubu and Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed allegations of a plot to impose candidates ahead of forthcoming legislative elections, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued and signed by its Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi on Thursday, the party said the report, attributed to a group of “concerned and vigilant members,” was a fabrication aimed at creating tension and portraying a non-existent crisis within the party.

Ojelabi maintained that there were no clandestine meetings or predetermined lists of candidates, stressing that the allegations were baseless and intended to mislead party members and the public.

He accused some individuals of resorting to propaganda and media sensationalism after failing to pursue their ambitions through legitimate internal processes.

He also alerted security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other stakeholders to what it described as the activities of “political mischief-makers” seeking to destabilise the party and create unnecessary anxiety within the polity.

According to the state Chairman, the party remains committed to due process and will strictly adhere to the provisions of the Electoral Act, its constitution, and guidelines issued by its national leadership in the selection of candidates.

Ojelabi reiterated that where consensus cannot be achieved, direct primaries would be conducted, noting that the position is final and in line with democratic principles.

He urged its members and the public to disregard what it called false narratives being spread by faceless groups, assuring that internal democracy, transparency, and the collective will of members would determine the emergence of candidates.
