167 Senior Police Officers Face Disciplinary Panel Over Misconduct

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against 167 senior officers over alleged breaches of professional conduct and related offences.

The exercise, currently underway at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, is being handled by the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), a key internal body responsible for reviewing cases involving officers of the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid said the move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen internal accountability, enforce discipline, and uphold professional standards within the Force.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to integrity and professionalism, stressing that no officer found guilty of misconduct would be shielded from due process.

According to him, the disciplinary process is designed to ensure a thorough, transparent, and fair review of all cases in line with existing laws and regulations, with recommendations to be forwarded to the Police Service Commission.

Disu noted that the ongoing proceedings form part of broader institutional reforms aimed at strengthening internal control mechanisms, promoting ethical conduct, and boosting public confidence in the police.

He reiterated the resolve of the Nigeria Police Force to uphold accountability and ensure that officers conduct themselves in line with the core values of the profession.
