The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 47 suspects and recovered firearms, ammunition, and stolen items in a series of operations aimed at tackling crime across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Ikeja, where he outlined achievements recorded since assuming office.

CP Fatai said the arrests and recoveries were the result of intelligence-led operations and strengthened community collaboration to curb criminal activities including armed robbery, cultism, and fraud.

According to him, items recovered include 14 firearms, comprising 10 locally made guns and four pump-action rifles, 96 rounds of ammunition, 29 live cartridges, 14 vehicles, two laptops, 29 mobile phones, and other incriminating materials.

The state police boss also said the command recorded no major security breaches during the Easter celebrations, attributing the success to proactive deployment of personnel and strategic positioning of assets across worship centres, highways, and public spaces.

Providing details of operations, CP Fatai said police operatives arrested a suspected armed robber identified as Jamiu Yahaya in Amukoko, recovering a locally made pistol and cartridges.

He added that a suspected cultist was also arrested in Ajegunle, while 21 others were apprehended at a hotel in Ajao Estate over alleged cult-related activities.

In another operation, an 18-year-old suspect was arrested in Ojokoro while attempting to collect a ₦20 million ransom linked to threats to life and extortion.

The command also dismantled a car theft syndicate with the arrest of five suspects and recovery of stolen vehicles, including a Toyota Sienna and a Toyota Camry.

CP Fatai further disclosed that a 62-year-old man was arrested over an alleged ₦130 million fraud involving the acquisition of luxury vehicles, with six vehicles valued at over ₦520 million recovered.

Other operations led to the arrest of suspected robbers and vandals in different parts of the state, including Ikotun, Egbeda, Iba, Egbin, and Ifako-Ijaiye, with additional recoveries of firearms, illicit drugs, and stolen mobile phones.

The commissioner said ongoing operations also led to the recovery of additional weapons and vehicles during coordinated raids across the state as part of efforts to mop up illegal arms.

He assured residents that the command would sustain intelligence-driven policing, enhance visibility patrols, and strengthen community engagement to maintain safety across Lagos.

CP Fatai urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police with timely and credible information, noting that all suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
