POWA Backs Police Leadership as IGP Commends Officers’ Wives

The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force through welfare and empowerment initiatives aimed at strengthening police families.

The assurance was given by the President of POWA, Olufunmilola Disu, during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Mrs Disu described the visit as both symbolic and strategic, noting that the association’s role extends beyond protocol to partnership in reinforcing the human foundation of the police.

She said the strength of the force is closely tied to the well-being of officers’ families, adding that POWA remains committed to initiatives that promote morale, family stability, and core values such as discipline and service.

According to her, recent interventions by the association include a free eye care programme that has benefited more than 1,000 police families, with plans underway to expand the initiative nationwide.

She also outlined key priorities of the association, including mental and emotional health support, economic empowerment, education, youth development, and the strengthening of welfare systems.

Responding, the Inspector-General of Police expressed appreciation to officers’ wives, describing them as a critical pillar in the effectiveness of the force.

He said their sacrifices, particularly in managing family responsibilities amid the uncertainties of policing, remain invaluable.

The police chief noted that the role of officers’ wives in maintaining stability at home and raising children contributes significantly to the overall success of the force.

He added that their support makes the demanding nature of police work more bearable, reaffirming the importance of family in sustaining effective policing.
