The Enugu State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Ugbor Chika Paul, over alleged serial rape, robbery and sextortion involving female victims in Enugu.
The Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly lured female Point-of-Sale (POS) operators to secluded locations under the pretext of conducting transactions, where he allegedly robbed and sexually assaulted them.
In a press release issued on October 27, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, said a phone recovered from the suspect reportedly contained nude images and video clips of identified and unidentified victims.
According to the police, the first reported victim, a 20-year-old POS operator at Akwata Market, was allegedly lured to a bush behind St. Peter’s Church, Coal Camp, at about 11 a.m. on May 21, 2026. The suspect allegedly robbed and raped her, taking ₦600,000.
The second victim, a 30-year-old POS operator at the same market, was allegedly lured to the location at about 5 p.m. on August 11. Police said she was robbed of ₦120,000 after the suspect allegedly attempted unsuccessfully to rape her.
In another incident, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly lured through Facebook by a person posing as Franklin Umeh. She reportedly met the suspect at Old Park, Enugu, at about 11:30 a.m. on October 4 before being taken to a bush around Udi Siding.
The police alleged that the suspect raped and sexually assaulted the woman, recorded her nude and stole ₦100,000 and her phone.
He allegedly threatened to circulate the video unless she paid ₦200,000 and used her phone to contact some of her WhatsApp contacts.
The Command said investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon their conclusion.
It urged other potential victims to come forward and assist the investigation, while encouraging women who have experienced cyberstalking or sextortion to report such incidents to the police.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting residents from sexual violence, robbery and other crimes.
He also urged members of the public, particularly women and business operators, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
