Lagos APC Mocks Momodu’s Claim He Can Stop Tinubu in 2027

President Bola Tinubu                     Dele Momodu

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed Dele Momodu’s claim that he and his political associates can stop President Bola Tinubu from securing re-election in 2027, describing the declaration as political fantasy unsupported by electoral strength.

The party challenged Momodu and his opposition allies to demonstrate their political structures, grassroots support and capacity to win votes nationwide rather than make confident predictions about the outcome of the next presidential election.

In a statement on Friday, the Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, said presidential elections were won through effective political organisation, credible policy alternatives, grassroots mobilisation and the ability to build broad-based national coalitions, not media appearances and public declarations.

He argued that Tinubu’s decades of political experience, coalition-building and established networks gave the President and the APC a formidable political foundation ahead of the 2027 contest.

Oladejo also faulted Momodu’s reported dismissal of the political significance of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s alignment with Tinubu, arguing that influential political figures and their networks remained relevant to electoral calculations regardless of their preferred political camp.

He accused the opposition of applying double standards by recognising the influence of political actors when they supported its interests but downplaying their significance when they aligned with the ruling party.

The APC spokesman further questioned the electoral performance of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urging Momodu and other opposition figures to examine the party’s results in off-season elections instead of projecting an assured victory in 2027.

While acknowledging that off-season election results could not conclusively determine the outcome of a presidential contest, Oladejo said they offered useful indicators of a party’s organisation, grassroots mobilisation and ability to convert political support into votes.

He also challenged the opposition to present clear plans for addressing Nigeria’s economic, security, infrastructure, education and healthcare challenges, arguing that a coalition united mainly by the desire to defeat an incumbent might lack a coherent governing agenda.

Oladejo maintained that criticism of the Tinubu administration did not automatically translate into support for the opposition, saying Nigerians could demand better governance without accepting what he described as an unconvincing alternative.

He said the APC was prepared to defend its record, address public concerns and seek a renewed mandate, adding that the outcome of the 2027 election would ultimately be determined by voters.

“Before announcing how to stop President Tinubu, demonstrate that you possess the political capacity, organisational machinery and compelling alternative required to persuade Nigerians to choose another direction,” Oladejo said.

He insisted that political ambition alone could not guarantee electoral success, arguing that any serious challenge to Tinubu would require substance, strategy, national reach and demonstrable popular support.
