Delta Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber, Recover AK-47, Two Other Guns
The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber in Asaba and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made guns and three rounds of live ammunition during an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, working in collaboration with local vigilantes.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect is alleged to be a member of an armed robbery syndicate linked to several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.
The police said information obtained during interrogation led operatives to a hideout near Okpanam City Gate, where they recovered one AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition.
The command said investigations were ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for the arrest and recovery of the firearms.
Erale reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
He also urged residents to provide the police with credible information to support crime-fighting efforts and help protect lives and property.
