MGDLI Unveils Three-Day Programme To Promote Better Mosque Management, Hygiene In Lagos
The Mosque Guidance and Development Lagos Initiative (MGDLI) has unveiled a three-day anniversary programme aimed at promoting effective mosque management, good governance, proper documentation, environmental hygiene and the welfare of worshippers.
The programme, scheduled for October 30 to November 1, 2026, will take place at the Lagos State Old Secretariat Mosque Hall, Ayinke Hall, Shamsi Adisa Thomas Central Mosque, Oba Akinjobi Way, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
The organisation made this known in a press release signed by the Chairman of MGDLI, Alhaji Musoddiq Adele Sanni; Secretary, Alhaji AbdulMumuni Bello; Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Alhaji Hakeem Bello; and Secretary of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Hajia Idayat Aloba.
With the theme, “Building Better Mosques: Documentation, Good Governance and Hygienic Environment,” the anniversary will bring together Islamic scholars, mosque administrators, community leaders, health professionals and other stakeholders to discuss practical ways of improving mosque administration and infrastructure.
A keynote lecture titled “Mosque Documentation and Hygiene: The Foundation for Sustainable Islamic Development” will highlight the importance of accountability, effective record-keeping and maintaining clean and safe worship environments.
As part of the activities, the organisation has scheduled a medical outreach, environmental sanitation training and the distribution of 100 first-aid kits to mosques.
The first day, Friday, October 30, will feature a special Jumu'ah service from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., including prayers for the initiative, mosques and the Muslim Ummah.
This will be followed by a medical outreach organised in collaboration with the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN) from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. The exercise will offer general health checks, blood pressure and blood sugar screening, counselling and referrals where necessary.
On Saturday, October 31, Hajia Owolarafe Haulat, founder of Haulat Pola Foundation and a mosque sanitation advocate associated with Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, will lead a practical session on mosque cleaning, toilet sanitation and environmental hygiene from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The session will be followed by the distribution of 100 first-aid kits to mosques between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., alongside sensitisation on their proper use, health awareness and emergency preparedness.
The anniversary programme will climax on Sunday, November 1, with a keynote lecture and panel discussion scheduled for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Professor Saheed Olurotimi Timehin of Lagos State University, an Islamic scholar and Da'wah expert, will deliver the keynote lecture, while Dr Muiz Banire, SAN, will chair the occasion.
The panel discussion will feature Hon. AbdulHakeem AbdulLateef, Alhaji Oladimeji Animashaun, Alhaji Adegbenga Ojikutu and Alhaji Taiwo Olapade, alongside other experts.
A faith-based hospitality and halal networking session, to be anchored by Hajia Maryam Mobolanje Sanni-Awe, founder of Glazing Memoirs, will follow the lecture and panel session from 1 p.m.
MGDLI said the programme was designed to equip imams, mosque committees and administrators with practical knowledge to improve accountability, preserve institutional records, maintain hygienic environments and strengthen the welfare of worshippers.
The organisation also expects the initiative to encourage partnerships and knowledge-sharing among Islamic organisations, professionals, philanthropists and other stakeholders committed to the development of Muslim communities.
MGDLI, a non-governmental organisation, promotes effective mosque administration, transparency, capacity building and infrastructure maintenance. It also seeks to collaborate with government agencies and other stakeholders through training, seminars, workshops and voluntary support.
The initiative envisions mosques as well-managed centres of worship, learning, community engagement and social development.
It has therefore called on imams, mosque administrators, Islamic organisations, Muslim scholars, community leaders and Muslims generally to participate in the anniversary activities. Institutions, philanthropists and other interested stakeholders have also been invited to support the programme.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to promoting cleaner and safer mosques, improved administration and stronger Muslim communities, under its vision: “Better Mosques, Stronger Communities, A Brighter Tomorrow.”
