FCID AIG Hails Ogun Monarch for Building Police Station, Seeks Stronger Community Partnership
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, Simeon U. Akpanudom, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to people-centred policing and stronger collaboration with traditional institutions.
Akpanudom gave the assurance during a courtesy visit to the Onilogbo of Ilogbo Asowo Kingdom, Ogun State, Oba Samuel Olufemi Ojugbele, ahead of the monarch’s 25th coronation anniversary.
The visit, which took place on Thursday, was aimed at strengthening relations between the Police and traditional institutions, promoting peaceful coexistence and encouraging community participation in security.
Akpanudom commended the monarch and his council for their commitment to peace, unity and community development, while applauding the people of Ilogbo for sustaining peace in the area.
He said mutual respect and sustained engagement with traditional rulers were essential to effective policing, adding that security agencies and citizens must work together to address the country’s security challenges.
The AIG also commended the monarch for facilitating the construction of a police division for the Ogun State Police Command in his community, describing the initiative as a practical contribution to security infrastructure.
He reiterated the commitment of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to policing that prioritises public trust, community engagement and cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the people.
Akpanudom also acknowledged the contributions of CP Adebola Ojugbele, described in the statement as the CP General Investigation, to strengthening relations with traditional institutions.
Responding, Oba Ojugbele thanked the AIG for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of respect for traditional institutions and a commitment to stronger police-community relations.
The monarch urged legal practitioners and other stakeholders to work constructively with the Police, saying cooperation rather than an adversarial approach would help strengthen the justice system and improve public safety.
He also called for greater accountability and improved communication between the Police and members of the public, particularly through timely feedback on investigated cases, saying this would boost public confidence and help deter crime.
The monarch further advocated increased voluntary community contributions towards security infrastructure, noting that modest donations could collectively support policing operations and facilities.
While commending police officers for their service, he identified inadequate facilities and resources as challenges to effective policing and called for improved personnel welfare, including insurance, retirement benefits and housing.
The monarch presented autographed copies of his book, My Life with Destiny, to the AIG and members of his delegation. The visit ended with the presentation of a commemorative plaque and a group photograph.
The FCID Annex said it would continue to strengthen community partnerships and support initiatives aimed at promoting public trust, peace and effective policing.
