NAF Pledges Environmental Assessment After Igbokoda Aircraft Crash

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has assured residents of Igbokoda, Ondo State, that it will work with relevant authorities to address environmental concerns arising from the October 5 aircraft crash, following reports of an offensive odour in the community.

The service said it would engage environmental and public health authorities to assess the situation and coordinate appropriate measures after the ongoing search and recovery operation had been completed.

The assurance was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Public Relations and Information, NAF Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame.

The NAF acknowledged residents’ concerns about the possible environmental impact of the accident, saying it understood the discomfort, anxiety and uncertainty they faced.

It added that search and recovery operations were continuing in collaboration with relevant partner agencies to ensure the safe and orderly recovery of the aircraft wreckage.

The service said it remained concerned about the wellbeing of the affected community and was committed to engaging relevant stakeholders to ensure appropriate action in the interest of public health, safety and environmental protection.

The accident involved a Nigerian Air Force ATR 42-500 aircraft, with recovery operations ongoing at Igbokoda.
