Enugu Man Remanded for Alleged Murder of 27-year-old Girlfriend

A 30-year-old man, Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel, has been remanded in correctional custody after being arraigned for the alleged murder of his 27-year-old girlfriend, Ugwu Chinyere Rosemary, in Enugu State.

The State Police Command said the suspect was arraigned on Friday, October 16, following the conclusion of investigations into the alleged killing in September.

According to the police, the court ordered that the case file be forwarded to the Enugu State Attorney-General through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for review and legal advice.

The command in a statement by it’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, on Saturday, said the suspect was arrested on September 21 after he was rescued from an angry mob.

Police investigations allegedly revealed that the victim was killed in the suspect’s apartment on September 19 following an argument over which of them had infected the other with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

The suspect allegedly struck the victim’s head with a pestle, inflicted deep cuts on her head and neck with a machete, and severed her right wrist.

The police said the severed wrist and other exhibits were recovered from the apartment.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and ensuring the prosecution of suspects.

He also urged young people, particularly women, to exercise caution in their relationships and remain alert to potential signs of violence.
