WAEC, JAMB Fix ₦4,000 One-Off Fee for O’Level Result Verification

Candidates to verify once, tertiary institutions barred from demanding fresh verification payment



The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have agreed that candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions will pay a one-time fee of ₦4,000 to verify their WASSCE O’Level results.

Under the new arrangement, candidates whose admissions are regulated and coordinated by JAMB are required to verify their WAEC results only once through the designated JAMB Verification Service platform.

The two examination and admission bodies announced the resolution in a joint statement issued and signed by Moyosola Adesina, Head of Public Affairs, WAEC, Yaba, Lagos, for the Head of National Office on Tuesday following a series of meetings and consultations on the implementation of the result verification service. 

WAEC and JAMB said tertiary institutions would be required to use the verified results shared by JAMB for screening, admission processing and other relevant administrative purposes.

The institutions are therefore not expected to demand another verification payment from candidates.

The bodies stressed that the ₦4,000 verification fee must be paid through the designated platform and not through candidates’ institutions of choice.

WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share the outcome of the verification exercise with relevant tertiary institutions for admission screening and processing.

Under the arrangement, a candidate who successfully verifies a WASSCE O’Level result through the JAMB Verification Service will not be required to repeat the verification for subsequent relevant admission processes.

WAEC and JAMB said the policy was designed to reduce the financial burden and stress associated with repeated verification, including unnecessary visits to institutions or JAMB-approved Computer-Based Test centres.

Candidates can initiate the verification process from their homes or any internet-enabled location.

The two bodies urged prospective candidates to take advantage of the arrangement by completing their O’Level result verification once, noting that the verified result would subsequently be available to the relevant institutions for admission purposes.

They said the collaboration was aimed at simplifying the admission process, reducing unnecessary costs and protecting the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records.

CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health.
