Police Arrest Three Suspected Carjackers, Recover Pistols, Ammunition in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an alleged armed robbery and carjacking syndicate in the Alakuko area of the state, recovering three locally made pistols and eight rounds of live ammunition.

The suspects were identified as Faruk Rasheed, 20; Olamilekan Ademola, 28; and Abidemi Oluwawemo, 21.

The Command said the arrests followed credible intelligence as part of ongoing efforts to tackle armed robbery, carjacking and other violent crimes across Lagos.

According to a statement by the state PolicePublicRelationsOfficer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects allegedly specialised in snatching vehicles and robbing residents of their valuables.

A search conducted after their arrest reportedly led to the recovery of two locally made pistols loaded with five cartridges and a locally made revolver pistol loaded with three rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

The suspects are currently in police custody while efforts are underway to apprehend other alleged members of the syndicate.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and protecting residents across the state.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities and emergencies to the Police through the Command’s emergency lines.

The Police Command said the arrests form part of its sustained operations to disrupt armed robbery and carjacking networks and improve security across Lagos.

CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos while presenting a new report titled Unhealthy Food Hijack of Festive Periods in Nigeria, CAPPA’s Executive Director, Akinbode Oluwafemi, said incremental policy responses were no longer sufficient given Nigeria’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases. As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health.
