The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has expelled Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Mr. Azeez Yusuf over what the party described as anti-party activities, disloyalty and conduct inimical to its discipline and integrity.

The party announced the expulsion in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, dated September 23, 2026.

According to the Lagos APC, Egunjobi and Yusuf contested the party’s primary elections for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II respectively during the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process but failed to secure the party’s tickets.

The party alleged that instead of accepting the outcome of its internal process or pursuing available avenues of redress, the two subsequently obtained tickets from another political party.



The APC described the action as a repudiation of the obligations of party membership and an act of anti-party activity and disloyalty.

It also dismissed their purported resignations from the party as a belated attempt to avoid disciplinary consequences.

The party said membership of the APC could not be treated as a temporary political platform to be abandoned after an unsuccessful primary.

The Lagos APC stressed that the party was governed by its constitution, rules and regulations, adding that members seeking elective office were expected to pursue their ambitions within the party’s established framework.

According to the statement, a member who loses an internal contest is expected to accept the outcome or pursue legitimate avenues of redress provided by the party and the law, rather than seek another political platform during the same electoral cycle.

The party said it had invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.

The Lagos APC also referred to the 2026 electoral framework and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s emphasis on compliance with the Electoral Act 2026 and relevant regulations governing the electoral process.

The party declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC.

It consequently warned that neither individual had the authority to speak for, represent, negotiate on behalf of, or transact business with any person, organisation or institution in the name of the Lagos State APC or the All Progressives Congress.

The party urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to take note of the change in their status and refrain from dealing with either of them as representatives or authorised agents of the APC.

The Lagos APC said it remained committed to internal democracy, discipline, loyalty and adherence to its rules.

It added that the right to contest for elective office did not, in the party’s view, extend to undermining the organisation after an unsuccessful nomination bid.

The statement concluded that the party would continue to take steps to preserve its discipline, cohesion and credibility ahead of the forthcoming elections.

CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa has called for stricter government regulation of junk food marketing, warning that aggressive promotion of unhealthy foods is fuelling rising obesity and other noncommunicable diseases in Nigeria. In a statement issued to mark World Obesity Day 2026, CAPPA said decisive policy action is urgently required to protect public health, particularly among children and young people.
