IGP Disu Tours 23 Police Barracks, Moves to Tackle Welfare, Accommodation Gaps

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has inspected 23 police barracks as part of efforts to assess the living conditions of personnel and their families and identify areas requiring urgent intervention.


The inspection covered residential quarters and other welfare facilities, with the IGP engaging officers and residents while assessing the condition of the infrastructure.


The exercise, according to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, provided a broad assessment of existing welfare challenges and identified areas requiring rehabilitation, urgent attention and sustained investment.


Disu said decent accommodation and functional welfare infrastructure were essential to boosting the morale, wellbeing and effectiveness of police personnel.


He assured officers and their families that identified welfare needs would receive appropriate attention, stressing that personnel who dedicate themselves to protecting lives and property deserve decent and conducive living conditions.


The IGP said improved welfare remained an integral part of ongoing police reforms and efforts to build a motivated, professional and effective police force.


The inspection also underscored the Force leadership’s emphasis on evidence-based assessment and practical interventions to address infrastructure gaps across police barracks.


The Nigeria Police Force said it remained committed to improving the welfare and living conditions of its personnel and their families through sustained investment in accommodation, welfare infrastructure and other support systems.


It added that improved welfare would strengthen the capacity of officers to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities.

CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos while presenting a new report titled Unhealthy Food Hijack of Festive Periods in Nigeria, CAPPA’s Executive Director, Akinbode Oluwafemi, said incremental policy responses were no longer sufficient given Nigeria’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases. As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health.
