Lagos APC Unveils Polling Unit Strategy For 2027 Elections

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has unveiled a grassroots campaign strategy for the 2027 elections, directing party members to focus their activities on senatorial districts, local governments, wards and polling units.

The party’s state chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, gave the charge on Friday at the inauguration of the Lagos APC Campaign Council at the Secretariat of the party in Ogba, Lagos, urging members to put past disagreements behind them and work as one structure.

Ojelabi said the campaign would depart from the party’s traditional reliance on large rallies, with greater emphasis on local engagement and mobilisation around the state’s polling units.

He repeatedly stressed the slogan “Operation Man Your Polling Booth,” noting that the state has 13,325 polling booths.

According to him, campaign council members would largely operate within their respective senatorial districts and local governments, while a smaller state-level team would focus on policy formulation, coordination and monitoring.

He urged local leaders, community captains, Community Development Association members and other grassroots stakeholders to participate actively in mobilising voters.

Ojelabi also cautioned party members against complacency, saying opposition parties would seek to challenge the APC and urging the campaign to comply with electoral laws.

He called for peaceful, issue-based campaigns devoid of violence, hatred and thuggery, while directing candidates to remain accessible to the campaign council and voters.

The APC chairman said the campaign council had a responsibility to maintain clear lines of command, reporting and accountability, as well as accurate information and respect for the democratic process.

The Director-General of the campaign council, Musiliu Obanikoro, similarly urged members to treat their appointments as a serious assignment rather than a ceremonial responsibility.

Obanikoro called for unity, discipline, organisation and sacrifice, urging members to put personal grievances aside and engage voters respectfully and lawfully.

Also speaking, Lagos Deputy Governor and APC governorsip candidate, Obafemi Hamzat, highlighted what he described as achievements of the Bola Tinubu administration and the Lagos APC government, including tax reforms, infrastructure and agricultural initiatives.

Hamzat urged party members to take the administration’s record to voters and mobilise support for APC candidates at the presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, governorship and State Assembly levels.

He also cited Lagos’ economic contribution and infrastructure projects, including the state’s rail system, as issues he said should form part of the party’s campaign message.

Former Lagos Deputy Governor Abiodun Ogunleye urged party members to work for the success of the APC candidates, saying the campaign council inauguration marked the beginning of the party’s mobilisation for the elections.

The inauguration comes as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections. INEC has scheduled the presidential and National/State Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections are fixed for February 6, 2027.

The Lagos APC campaign council structure lists Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as chairman, Deputy Governor Hamzat as deputy chairman, Ojelabi as Vice-Chairman I and former Senator Musiliu Obanikoro as Director-General.

CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa has called for stricter government regulation of junk food marketing, warning that aggressive promotion of unhealthy foods is fuelling rising obesity and other noncommunicable diseases in Nigeria. In a statement issued to mark World Obesity Day 2026, CAPPA said decisive policy action is urgently required to protect public health, particularly among children and young people. The organisation noted that obesity has become one of the world’s most pressing health challenges, citing projections that nearly half of the global population — about four billion people — could be living with overweight or obesity by 2035.
