IGP Disu Receives Lifetime Achievement Award From St. Gregory’s College Old Boys

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association in recognition of his career in public service and policing.

Disu was honoured on Saturday, September 26, 2026, alongside the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Olayemi Cardoso, at a grand reception held in Lagos.

The award recognised the IGP’s more than three decades of service to the Nigeria Police Force, as well as his professional accomplishments since completing his secondary education at St. Gregory’s College in 1985.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the recognition highlighted Disu’s career in frontline policing, criminal investigation, intelligence operations, international peacekeeping and senior command responsibilities.

Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1992 and has served in several operational and leadership positions, including Commander of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, Head of the Intelligence Response Team and Commissioner of Police.

He was appointed the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police in February 2026.

The association also recognised his emphasis on professionalism, intelligence-led policing, accountability, personnel welfare, community partnership and the use of technology in policing and public safety.

Speaking at the event, Disu expressed appreciation to the St. Gregory’s College Old Boys Association for the honour, describing recognition from his alma mater as particularly significant.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country with integrity and strengthening the Nigeria Police Force as a professional, accountable and people-centred institution.

The Force Public Relations Officer said the Nigeria Police Force remained committed to promoting exemplary leadership, professionalism and dedicated service, while recognising the role of education and mentorship in shaping officers who contribute to national development.

CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos while presenting a new report titled Unhealthy Food Hijack of Festive Periods in Nigeria, CAPPA’s Executive Director, Akinbode Oluwafemi, said incremental policy responses were no longer sufficient given Nigeria’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases. World Obesity Day: CAPPA Urges Tougher Curbs on Junk Food Marketing

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa has called for stricter government regulation of junk food marketing, warning that aggressive promotion of unhealthy foods is fuelling rising obesity and other noncommunicable diseases in Nigeria. In a statement issued to mark World Obesity Day 2026, CAPPA said decisive policy action is urgently required to protect public health, particularly among children and young people. The organisation noted that obesity has become one of the world’s most pressing health challenges, citing projections that nearly half of the global population — about four billion people — could be living with overweight or obesity by 2035.
