Lagos Police Arrest 32 Suspects, Recover 43 Vehicles, Firearms

The Lagos State Police Command says it arrested 32 suspects and recovered 43 vehicles, firearms, ammunition, cash and other exhibits during various operations across the state in September 2026.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed this during a press briefing in Ikeja on the Command’s achievements for the month.

According to him, the recovered items included five pump-action guns, five locally made pistols, 20 live ammunition and cartridges, 15 expended ammunition, two cutlasses, suspected criminal charms, ₦2.5 million cash, as well as vehicle parts and tools.

In another operation, the CP said a 32-year-old Ojo Azeez was arrested during a patrol along Oko Oba Road after suspected hoodlums allegedly fled on sighting the police. A locally made cut-to-size pistol, radiator, car jack, engine block and a bag containing vehicle spare parts and tools were recovered.

He said a 29-year-old Ezekiel Sunday Obi was also arrested in connection with an alleged armed robbery at Ghost and Spirit Lounge, Ekoro Road, Abule Egba, where a man was reportedly robbed of a gold wrist chain and rings.

Obi was arrested at the Toll Gate along the Lagos-Ogun boundary, while police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the alleged gang.

In Mushin, Anti-Crime Patrol operatives arrested Ogunbayo Abdulwahib following information about a group allegedly involved in breaking into residential apartments in the Chevron area of Lekki-Ajah.

Police said ₦2.5 million and three mobile phones were recovered from a room at Muritical Hotel and Suites, Idi-Oro, where Abdulwahib allegedly lodged with other members of the group who fled before the arrival of the police.

Similarly, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested Lekan Jimoh, 32; Oyepeju Olanrewaju, 33; and Olurebi Suleiman, 30, in Idi-Oro. Their arrest reportedly led to the recovery of a pump-action gun and 11 live cartridges at Igbogbo, Ikorodu, from 47-year-old Banjo Taiwo.

Further investigation led to the arrest of 26-year-old Ebuka Benedict at Olorunsogo, Mushin, where police said a locally made Beretta pistol and four live 9mm ammunition were recovered from his room. The suspect also reportedly admitted to membership of the Eiye confraternity.

The Command said two other suspected members of the group, Femi Ishola, 35, and Daniel Luke, 27, were arrested at Ganyigbo Beach Yard following intelligence gathering and assistance from community stakeholders.

In Badagry, police arrested 12 suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in the Imeke area. A Mercedes-Benz car, two vehicle keys, a locally made cut-to-size gun and suspected criminal charms were recovered from the suspects.

Police said seven of the suspects had been charged to court, while investigation continued.

In another operation, 53-year-old Sijuade Alade was arrested in Ojo for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm, with one locally made pistol recovered from him.

Police also arrested 27-year-old Joshua Benard in the Agric area of Epe following a distress call over alleged theft. Building electrical wires suspected to have been stolen were recovered from him.

Six suspected hoodlums were also arrested following a distress call from the Ejigbo-Idimu Road area. Police identified five of them as Ayomide Odusanya, 18; Michael Olushi, 18; Victor Denis, 20; Favour Obaji, 18; and Jamiu Isah, 16. Two cutlasses and a television set were recovered.

In Badagry, 26-year-old carpenter Kole Josu was arrested over alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and public disturbance. Police said two victims had made statements while investigation continued.

The Command also reported the arrest of 15-year-old Taiye Majekodunmi at Capa, Oshodi, for allegedly transporting concealed firearms and ammunition inside a loaf of bread for delivery to another person.

Police said a locally made fabricated Beretta pistol, four rounds of 9mm ammunition and a locally made single-barrel cut-to-size gun were recovered from him. An additional cut-to-size gun and 11 cartridges were subsequently recovered during the investigation.

The Commissioner further said operatives of the command impounded more than 41 vehicles during an early-morning enforcement operation targeting covered number plates and unregistered vehicles.

CP Fatai commended police officers and operatives for the reported breakthroughs and appreciated members of the public for providing information.

He assured residents that the Command would continue to protect personnel lawfully carrying out their duties while holding accountable officers whose conduct falls short of expected professional standards.

CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. World Obesity Day: CAPPA Urges Tougher Curbs on Junk Food Marketing

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa has called for stricter government regulation of junk food marketing, warning that aggressive promotion of unhealthy foods is fuelling rising obesity and other noncommunicable diseases in Nigeria. In a statement issued to mark World Obesity Day 2026, CAPPA said decisive policy action is urgently required to protect public health, particularly among children and young people. The organisation noted that obesity has become one of the world’s most pressing health challenges, citing projections that nearly half of the global population — about four billion people — could be living with overweight or obesity by 2035.
