Lagos Police Smash Car Snatching, Armed Robbery Gang

Detectives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested four suspected members of a notorious car-snatching and armed robbery gang responsible for a string of violent attacks on motorists within Lagos and neighbouring states.

The suspects, identified as Taiwo Alabi (42), Ogedengbe Lowis (46), Ighodalo Enato Francis (37) and Osaro Eghe Abiodun (34), were apprehended during intelligence-led operations carried out between October 15 and 17, 2025, at their hideout in Igando, Lagos State.

According to to a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the gang specialised in posing as passengers before attacking unsuspecting vehicle owners and robbing them of their cars at gunpoint.

The suspects have also been linked to several robbery incidents in Ogun, Oyo and Edo States.

Items recovered from the suspects include one pump-action shotgun, one Beretta pistol, 48 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 46 live cartridges, one cutlass, assorted criminal charms, one Toyota Sienna, two Lexus ES350 cars, and one Toyota Corolla.

Police investigations revealed that the suspects often boarded vehicles pretending to be passengers and later overpowered the drivers before fleeing with the vehicles.

One of the stolen cars was traced to Lagos, while others were reportedly taken from other southwestern states using the same method.

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, in a statement, assured residents that the Command remains resolute in its commitment to ridding the state of violent criminals and ensuring the safety of lives and property.

He said, “The Lagos State Police Command will continue to deploy intelligence-led operations and proactive policing strategies to guarantee peace, security and stability across the state.”

CP Jimoh also said efforts were ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the gang, adding that the arrested suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
