Lagos APC stakeholders endorse President Tinubu for second term

Stakeholders in the Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.

The decision was taken at a stakeholders’ forum held at Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, attended by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ministers from Lagos, members of the National and State Assemblies, party leaders, and traditional rulers.

The motion for the endorsement was moved by the Oba of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and seconded by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.

Party leaders, including former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi; and APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, praised the President’s performance in over two years in office and pledged to work for his re-election.

Fashola, the former Governor of Lagos, urged the party to confront the growing challenge of voter apathy and reconnect with its traditional support base ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He noted that despite over 93 million registered voters in the 2023 elections, turnout was below 30 percent, describing it as a worrisome trend.

“We need to interrogate why voter turnout keeps reducing—why our traditional voters are not turning out, whether our policies still resonate with them, and if our reward systems remain effective,” he said.

Fashola also emphasized the need to engage young people more actively, adding that “if it is important to us, we must make it important to them.”

Lagos APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, announced a series of incentives to boost voter registration and mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections.

He said the party would reward the polling unit with the highest number of new PVC registrations with ₦1 million, the best-performing ward with ₦5 million, and the top-performing local government with ₦20 million.

Ojelabi thanked members for their loyalty and commitment, assuring aspirants who contested in previous primaries that they would not be forgotten.

He stressed that the APC’s strength lies in its deep connection with the people. “It is not a mistake that Lagosians have kept faith with our party since 1999. We have earned their trust because we respect them and never take their interests for granted,” he said.

Also speaking, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, charged members to intensify efforts toward voter mobilization and youth engagement.

He noted that young Nigerians between ages 18 and 30 now constitute the majority of voters and must be deliberately included in party activities.

“The problem we have observed in Lagos over the past three elections is not about the strength of our register but about the strength of our people coming out to vote,” Basiru said.

“We must ensure that in the coming election, at least 75 percent of registered members turn out, and 85 percent of them vote for our party - the party of renewed hope.”

He also announced that Lagos would host the South-West Train-the-Trainer program for the APC’s e-membership registration on November 3 and 4, aimed at building a data-driven membership base across the region.

The forum concluded with renewed commitments from stakeholders to strengthen party unity, deepen grassroots participation, and mobilize massive support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
