Lagos APC Accuses Peter Obi of Hypocrisy over Trade Fair Demolition Remarks

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, of hypocrisy following his criticism of the ongoing demolition of illegal structures at the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the party said Obi’s comment urging the state government to “temper law with compassion” was politically motivated and inconsistent with his own record as governor of Anambra State.

Oladejo alleged that Obi, during his tenure as governor, demolished markets, shops, and residential buildings without hesitation, adding that it was “hypocritical” for him to now fault Lagos for enforcing its urban planning laws.

“It is clear that Mr. Obi’s politics thrives on selective morality and deliberate mischief,” the statement read. “His attempt to politicize a straightforward urban planning enforcement exercise is shameful, deceitful, and unbecoming of a man who once governed a state.”

The Lagos APC maintained that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration had demonstrated “compassion, patience, and due process” through prior warnings and engagements with affected stakeholders before any demolition was carried out.

The statement further advised Obi to focus on “rebuilding his crumbling political image” instead of “feeding off public emotion to stay relevant,” adding that Lagos would continue to enforce its laws “without fear or favour.”

According to the party, Lagos remains “a model of lawful governance, strategic urban renewal, and genuine compassion — not the selective theatrics that define Obi’s brand of politics.”
