2027: Obasa rallies party members at Lagos APC stakeholders’ forum
Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has assured members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos that the party leadership will continue to support and empower them to effectively mobilize votes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Hon. Obasa gave the assurance while addressing party faithful at the maiden Lagos State APC Stakeholders’ Forum held on Tuesday, October 21, at the convention centre of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The forum brought together ministers, senators, federal and state lawmakers, members of the Lagos State executive council, local government chairmen, traditional rulers, and representatives of various trade and professional associations.
In his remarks, Obasa acknowledged concerns among party members about the reward system for loyal and hardworking supporters, urging them to remain steadfast and committed as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
“We will continue to support you so that you will be motivated to keep working for the success of the party at all levels,” he said.
The Speaker also endorsed the motion by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu calling for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Similarly, former Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, in his presentation titled “Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Election in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy,” identified poor reward structures as a key factor behind the growing disinterest of party members in electoral activities.
“Political party participation is based on enthusiasm. Therefore, to avoid voter apathy, we must interrogate the reward system for our members,” Fashola said, urging the APC to strengthen its internal structures to sustain members’ morale and loyalty.
He commended the Lagos APC leadership for organizing the forum, describing it as an important initiative that should be replicated across the country.
Earlier in his address, Lagos APC Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, expressed appreciation to Lagosians for their support during the last local government elections and to all aspirants for their commitment to the party’s success.
Ojelabi assured those who lost in the primaries that they would be refunded the money spent in purchasing nomination forms — a commitment he said was made by President Tinubu and one the state chapter was duty-bound to fulfill.
The forum ended with renewed pledges of unity, loyalty, and dedication among APC stakeholders in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
