Lagos APC Hails President Tinubu’s State Pardon as Symbol of Justice and National Healing

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has commended President Bola Tinubu for his decision to grant state pardon to Herbert Macaulay, Farouk Lawan, and 173 others, describing it as an act of courage, compassion, and statesmanship.

In a statement signed by the party’s spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the Lagos APC said the move reflects President Tinubu’s deep commitment to justice, national reconciliation, and the Renewed Hope Agenda’s vision of a fair and humane Nigeria.

According to Oladejo, the presidential gesture goes beyond symbolism, as it reaffirms the President’s belief in restorative justice and national healing.

He said by posthumously honouring Herbert Macaulay, one of Nigeria’s foremost nationalists, President Tinubu had corrected a “historical injustice” and celebrated the legacy of those who fought for the nation’s freedom.

“For the living beneficiaries, this act opens a new chapter of hope, redemption, and reintegration,” the statement read. “It demonstrates that justice in a democracy must balance accountability with mercy.”

Oladejo further stated that the state pardon strengthens unity and restores public faith in Nigeria’s justice system, adding that true leadership lies not only in firmness but also in fairness and forgiveness.

“Once again, President Tinubu has shown that the Renewed Hope Agenda is not just about infrastructure and economic revival, it is about building a humane, inclusive, and compassionate nation,” Oladejo said.

He added that the Lagos APC salutes the President for leading with heart, courage, and vision, describing the decision as a “triumph of justice, compassion, and national reconciliation.”
