Lagos APC Faults Sowore Over Release Nnamdi Kanu Protest
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised activist and politician Omoyele Sowore over his recent protest demanding the release of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s spokesman, Hon. Seye Oladejo, the APC described Sowore’s action as “political theatre” and “an insult to Ndigbo and the rule of law.”
The statement said the protest was another attempt by the Sahara Reporters publisher to seek public attention and relevance, questioning his motives and connection to the South East.
“It is both baffling and laughable that Sowore, a man with no cultural or political connection to the South East, now parades himself as the rallying point of Ndigbo,” the statement read.
“Why is he weeping more than the bereaved? Why is he pontificating loudly on a matter already before a court of competent jurisdiction?”
The party accused Sowore of hypocrisy, alleging that while he frequently calls for democracy and the rule of law, his recent actions contradict those principles by inciting street protests over a matter pending in court.
The APC maintained that Ndigbo do not need “a political wanderer in borrowed robes” to define their interests, adding that the region’s leaders are capable of pursuing justice with wisdom and dignity.
“The rule of law must take its full course, as that is the only path to lasting justice and national order, principles that the APC government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains steadfastly committed to,” the statement added.
Oladejo further urged Nigerians to ignore Sowore’s activities, describing them as distractions aimed at keeping himself relevant in national discourse.
He said, “Sowore should stop playing the town crier of a village that never sent him on any errand.”
