Security Agencies Meet in Awka Over Anambra Governorship Election

 


Ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, security agencies have met in Awka to fine-tune strategies for effective coordination and peaceful conduct of the polls.


The meeting, convened by the Anambra State Police Command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, was held on Tuesday at the Command Headquarters in compliance with the directive of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).


Speaking during the session, CP Orutugu, represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Ibrahim Ezekiel, assured residents of the state that the Police and other security agencies were fully prepared to ensure a hitch-free election.


He emphasized the importance of synergy and information sharing among the various agencies, stressing that peaceful elections depend on cooperation, neutrality, and professionalism.


The meeting was attended by representatives of the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Federal Fire Service, and the Nigerian Correctional Service.


The agencies expressed their readiness to work together under the ICCES framework to guarantee voters’ safety and maintain order before, during, and after the election.


According to the Command, the Situation Room established at the Police Headquarters in Awka will serve as the control centre for real-time monitoring, coordination, and rapid response to any security issues that may arise during the election period.
