The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has called on the Federal Government to extend its whistle-blower policy in the anti-corruption war to the proliferation of arms. Ekweremadu made the call when a delegation of the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) paid him a courtesy visit in his office, Abuja. He said the right to life remained the single most important human right, saying that unless such illicit arms were mopped up, the mass killings and destruction would continue. He stressed the need for the respect of human rights in the implementation of whistle-blower policy in the war against corruption and proliferation of arms. The Acting General Officer Commanding, 7 Division Nigerian Army, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu, has visited troops of 114 Task Force Battalion of 26 Task Force Brigade, located at Tokumbere, Sambisa forest, Borno State. During the visit, the Acting GOC charged the troops to destroy the remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hibernating within their area of responsibility. He was accompanied by the Commander of 26 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General Adeyinka Laguda and other Staff Officers at the Division's Headquarters. Highlights of the visit includes visit to the Battalion Headquarters in Bitta and other forward areas. Brigadier General Ezugwu had earlier visited the 121 Task Force Batallion in Pulka and 26 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Gwoza respectively.

  The Federal Government says President Muhammadu Buhari deliberately assigned Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to preside over the Federal Executive Council in order to attend to other official matters. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, told newsmen after the weekly council meeting in Abuja that the clarification became necessary after speculations on the President’s health in the media following his absence. The Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abdullahi Muhammadu, has ordered the deployment of 40,000 personnel for the Easter celebration across the nation. The service is also deploying sniffer dogs, Special Forces, Ambulances and Surveillance team to strategic areas nationwide. Gana charged the personnel to ensure the protection of Critical Infrastructure within their localities against vandals and other criminal elements. He also directed the Zonal and State Commandants to ensure efficient deployment of their personnel to all nooks and crannies for effective policing of lives and property against any form of attack. The Federal Government has declared Friday 14th and Monday 17th April, 2017 as Public Holidays to mark the Good Friday and Easter celebrations. The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (Rtd) Abdulrahman Dambazau, made the declaration in a statement on behalf of the government. He enjoined Christian faithful and Nigerians in general to extend the spiritual benefits of Easter, which are love, peace, justice, sacrifice and kindness to their daily living, and through this contribute to unity and peaceful co-existence among Nigerians. The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI), General TY Danjuma RTD has described as tragic, the death of civilians that occurred due to the accidental bombing by the Nigerian Air Force in Rann, Kala Balge, Borno State. He said the monumental loss at the camp in Rann, was not only tragic but highly regrettable. General Danjuma in a statement released by the PCNI 's Head of Media and Communications, Alkasim Abdulkadir expressed his heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Borno State. The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and stakeholders in humanitarian activities in North-East have condoled victims of accidental airstrike that occurred in Rann, Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno state. The stakeholders who meet monthly to review developmental activities in internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) Camps and host communities also observed a minute of silence in memory of Humanitarian workers from the Nigerian Red Cross and others who died in the bombing incident. The meeting also discused measures being put in place to receive and host 1300 IDPs expected to from Abuja. The stakeholders meeting organised by NEMA is a forum for all partners engaged in humanitarian activities in Borno state.
