Four Suspected Armed Robbers, Cultists Arrested in Lagos; Three Pistols Recovered

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of a criminal gang allegedly linked to recent killings, armed robbery and cult-related activities in the Ajah axis of the state.

The suspects, identified as Kareem Abiodun, 26; Tansiru Emmanuel, 29; Lateef Usman, 28; and Alashe Azeez, 32, were arrested during sustained follow-up operations by police operatives investigating a robbery case.

According to a statement by the Command's spokesperso, SP Abimbola Adebisi, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are linked to recent robbery activities around Ajah, Sangotedo and Ibeju-Lekki. 

Adebisi said the suspects also made confessional statements regarding alleged involvement in armed robbery, murder and cultism.

"Three locally made pistols, one live ammunition, two battle axes and a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine were recovered from the suspects", she added.

The suspects remain in police custody and are assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other alleged members of the gang and recover additional exhibits. 

The police said the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives for their diligence and sustained follow-up efforts. 

He directed them to intensify efforts to apprehend other members of the gang and warned cultists, armed robbers and other violent criminals that the Command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to bring them to justice.

CP Fatai urged residents to report suspicious activities through its emergency lines for prompt police response.

CAPPA Backs FG’s Health Tax Policy, Seeks Higher Levy on Sugary Drinks

  The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s plan to channel excise-tax revenues from alcohol, tobacco, and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) into health financing, but urged authorities to raise the levy on sugary drinks to make it more effective. World Food Day: CAPPA Warns Against Corporate Capture of Nigeria’s Food System

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health.
