FCID Annex, Lagos Seeks Regular Medical Checks for Detectives

AIG Akpanudom urges improved healthcare access, NHIS coverage for police personnel




The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Lagos, AIG Simeon U. Akpanudom, has called for regular medical checks for detectives and improved access to quality healthcare for police personnel.

Akpanudom made the call when the Force Director of Medical Services, AIG Nkechi Eze, and her team paid a working visit to the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos.

According to a statement issued and signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, FCID Annex, Alagbon, ASP Mayegun Aminat, during the visit, the team inspected the medical facilities at the Annex and discussed measures to improve healthcare services and the welfare of personnel, particularly detectives who require regular medical attention.

The AIG stressed the importance of prioritising the physical and mental well-being of police officers, noting that their health was essential to efficiency, professionalism and effective service delivery.

He called for routine medical examinations by qualified doctors, saying regular assessments would help in the early detection of health concerns, promote preventive healthcare and ensure officers remain fit for duty.

Akpanudom also appealed for improved access to the National Health Insurance Scheme, NHIS, for detectives and other personnel at the Annex.

Responding, the Force Director of Medical Services, AIG Nkechi Eze, said her team had inspected and assessed medical facilities across various police formations in Lagos.

She assured the FCID Annex that the needs identified during the visit would receive the necessary attention, while expressing her commitment to strengthening medical services and access to quality healthcare for police personnel.

The visit ended with the presentation of a plaque of recognition to AIG Eze by AIG Akpanudom, followed by a group photograph.

The FCID Annex said it remained committed to initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare, professional efficiency and overall well-being of its personnel.

UNILAG Alumni Association to Mark 55th Anniversary with Awards, Fundraising for Education Support

The University of Lagos Alumni Association has unveiled plans for its 55th Anniversary Awards and Recognition Dinner, scheduled for Friday, October 17, 2025, at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos while presenting a new report titled Unhealthy Food Hijack of Festive Periods in Nigeria, CAPPA’s Executive Director, Akinbode Oluwafemi, said incremental policy responses were no longer sufficient given Nigeria’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases.
