President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi of Gombe State for emerging winner of the women’s category at the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Maryam for her exceptional mastery of the Holy Qur’an and outstanding performance at the prestigious international competition.

Maryam reportedly defeated competitors from 132 countries to clinch the top prize of 300,000 Saudi Riyals, equivalent to about N120 million.

President Tinubu described the achievement as a source of national pride, saying Maryam had placed Nigeria prominently on the global stage through her dedication to Qur’anic memorisation, recitation, Tajweed and scholarship.

The President also celebrated Maryam’s elder sister, Hajara Ibrahim Dan’Azumi, who won a similar international competition in Jordan in 2024, describing both sisters as inspiring examples for young Nigerians.

He commended their parents, teachers and mentors for the sacrifices, guidance and commitment that contributed to their remarkable achievements.

He also appreciated the government and people of Saudi Arabia, as well as the organisers of the competition, for providing an international platform that promotes excellence in Qur’anic memorisation, recitation, understanding and scholarship.

Maryam’s victory came in a highly competitive category covering memorisation of the entire Holy Qur’an, recitation, Tajweed and interpretation of all 60 Hizb with Tafsir.

The President said the achievement demonstrated the excellence, discipline, dedication and intellectual capacity of Nigerian youths, while bringing honour and pride to the country.
