Ooni To Adeleke: Election Is Over, Now Unite Osun

The Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his re-election, urging him to use his renewed mandate to unite the state and accelerate development.

The Ooni, who is the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council and Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, described Adeleke’s victory in the August 15 governorship election as a fresh mandate and a renewed responsibility to serve all residents of the state.

In a statement by the Senior Media Officer, Ooni’s Palace, Sodiq Lawal, on behalf of the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the monarch said the conclusion of the election should mark the beginning of a new chapter of unity, reconciliation and purposeful governance.

He urged Adeleke to extend an olive branch to political opponents and work towards healing divisions that may have emerged during the electioneering period.

“Your victory comes with a renewed responsibility to serve the entire people of Osun State, irrespective of political affiliation, ethnic background, religious belief or geographical location,” the Ooni said.

“The election is over, but the work of building a stronger, more prosperous and peaceful Osun has only just begun.”

The monarch urged the governor to make his second term a period of legacy-building, with greater attention to youth empowerment, employment creation, education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, tourism and the creative economy.

He commended the administration’s ongoing infrastructural projects, including the completed Lagere Flyover in Ile-Ife and the road dualisation linking Mayfair to Enuwa, but called for the expansion of development to other communities.

The Ooni said Osun must now move “from political competition to economic competition, from electioneering to development, and from division to collaboration.”

He stressed the need for stronger cooperation between the state government and traditional rulers, describing the traditional institution as a key partner in maintaining peace, mobilising communities and advancing grassroots development.

The monarch also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies, election officials, observers, the media and other stakeholders for their contributions to the electoral process.

He urged Adeleke to see his re-election as a call to greater service and work towards leaving a lasting legacy for present and future generations.

“Once again, I congratulate His Excellency, Governor Ademola Adeleke. The election is behind us; the future of Osun is before us. Let us all unite and build it together,” Ooni Ogunwusi stated.
