Kano Police Unveil New Security Roadmap, Order 24-Hour Patrols

CP Bakori warns against corruption, extortion as commanders get fresh directives




The Kano State Police Command has unveiled a strategic security roadmap aimed at strengthening crime prevention, intelligence gathering and police visibility across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, announced the measures during a strategic meeting with Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Squadron Commanders and Heads of Departments at the Police Headquarters, Bompai, Kano.

The meeting reviewed the security situation in the state and assessed the performance of the various operational formations, according to a statement by the staye Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.

CP Bakori commended the commanders and their personnel for sustained crime prevention, prompt response to emergencies and efforts to strengthen community engagement and public trust.

He directed all commanders to intensify proactive operations against criminal elements and prevent any breakdown of law and order.

The CP also ordered round-the-clock visibility patrols, stop-and-search operations and increased monitoring of identified crime-prone areas.

He directed the commanders to strengthen intelligence gathering through community partnerships, Police Community Relations Committees and credible informants, while deepening collaboration with other security agencies.

Bakori further directed Area, Tactical and Squadron Commanders to adopt the Inspector-General of Police’s “management by working around” approach by personally supervising officers in the field and providing on-the-spot guidance.

He stressed that such supervision must ensure discipline, professionalism and prompt response to security challenges.

The Commissioner warned officers against corruption, extortion, abuse of office and other conduct capable of undermining public confidence in the Police, saying personnel found culpable would face disciplinary and legal action.

He also charged commanders to uphold human rights, the rule of law and the highest standards of professionalism while carrying out their duties.

Bakori reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the people-oriented policing agenda of IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu and assured residents of the Police’s determination to protect lives and property.

He urged the people of Kano State to continue supporting the Police by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and security operations.

CAPPA Backs FG’s Health Tax Policy, Seeks Higher Levy on Sugary Drinks

  The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s plan to channel excise-tax revenues from alcohol, tobacco, and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) into health financing, but urged authorities to raise the levy on sugary drinks to make it more effective. At a national health-financing dialogue in Abuja, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed that a draft policy is being finalised to earmark revenues from “sin taxes” for healthcare.  The proposal will soon be submitted to the Minister of Health and Social Welfare. CAPPA Urges Policymakers to Regulate Festive Food Marketing in Public Interest

The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has called on Nigerian policymakers to urgently regulate the marketing of unhealthy foods and beverages, warning that weak oversight is allowing corporate interests to undermine public health, particularly during festive periods. Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos while presenting a new report titled Unhealthy Food Hijack of Festive Periods in Nigeria, CAPPA’s Executive Director, Akinbode Oluwafemi, said incremental policy responses were no longer sufficient given Nigeria’s rising burden of non-communicable diseases.
