President Tinubu Makes 26 Appointments to Federal Agencies, Names Fayose REA Chairman

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of 26 persons into the boards and management of 10 federal agencies and commissions, naming former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

The appointments, announced on Monday in a statement by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, take immediate effect.

Fayose will chair the REA board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta as non-executive directors, while the agency's Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and three previously appointed executive directors complete the board.

President Tinubu also appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa as Chairman of the National Salaries and Wages Commission, with former House of Representatives member, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, named Secretary of the Commission.

Other appointments to the commission include Dr. Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde as commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states respectively. Dr. Mai Adamu Yau, Ginika Florence Tor, Engineer Lawrence Okoh and Bello Morenike Iyabode were appointed as members.

The President redeployed Tosin Johnson Adeyanju from the National Lottery Trust Fund to serve as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission.

Also appointed were Dr. Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr. Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET), and Dr. Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.

Engineer Julius Oloro was named Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM), replacing the late Dr. A.R. Kamal.

President Tinubu also inaugurated the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, appointing Dr. Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as chairman. Other members are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr. Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.

In addition, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu'aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was earlier reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund.

The President also appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja as Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, replacing Mathias Byuan, who resigned to pursue the Benue State governorship.

CAPPA Backs FG’s Health Tax Policy, Seeks Higher Levy on Sugary Drinks

  The Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has welcomed the Federal Government’s plan to channel excise-tax revenues from alcohol, tobacco, and sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) into health financing, but urged authorities to raise the levy on sugary drinks to make it more effective. At a national health-financing dialogue in Abuja, Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed that a draft policy is being finalised to earmark revenues from “sin taxes” for healthcare.  The proposal will soon be submitted to the Minister of Health and Social Welfare. World Food Day: CAPPA Warns Against Corporate Capture of Nigeria’s Food System

As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate World Food Day 2025, the Corporate Accountability and Public Participation Africa (CAPPA) has raised concern over the growing dominance of ultra-processed foods in the country’s food system, warning that weak regulation and unchecked corporate influence are endangering public health. In a statement signed by CAPPA’s Media and Communication Officer, Robert Egbe, and released in Lagos on Thursday, the group said the government must urgently strengthen laws that protect citizens from deceptive marketing and unhealthy food products.
